"mcconnell has had a longstanding interest in the police station, and we quickly gathered our board of directors up to revisit an acquisition of the police station." mcconnell vice president of operations shannon phillips says their board will submit a $675-thousand dollar cash offer to the city of redding this week...the same offer they initially made. she says because the costs to bring it up to code are too high, they plan to knock it down and replace it... but are still working out the details. "our intent was to demolish the building primarily because it's been deemed an unsafe workplace." mcconnel was also recently awarded a shasta regional transportation agency grant that will help them apply for state funds to redevelop a nearby downtown parking garage for mixed-use housing and businesses.
